The Luminaries Project
A portrait project that celebrates the achievements, wisdom and beauty of women over 40. This project features women who feel like they’ve lived many lives already and also like they’re just getting started.
And yes, in case you’re wondering, Luminarie Creative was named after this project just as it was inspired by the women featured within it.
Why Luminaries?
This project will focus on women who are illuminating the way for others!
Many annual roundups of people of note tend to be stuck at the intersection of achievement and youth. I’m interested in celebrating the contributions and ideas of people who have lived longer, have plentiful experiences to draw upon and perhaps even richer stories to share.
Because midlife is just the beginning.
Because your stories, your innovations, your activism, your artistry, your compassion and your humanity matter.
Tell me more about the project!
The Luminaries Project will be a portrait project featuring 40 women over 40. It began in May 2022 and is ongoing.
I’m looking to photograph 40 charismatic, interesting, resilient women who have lived and work every damn day to light the way for others and create a brighter future.
These portraits will be shot at various locations, depending on the vision of each portrait and the person featured. Some will be shot in my own studio, while others may be done on-location in the city or even in your home.
The goals of this project:
To create a collection of exquisite portraits
To celebrate the lives lived by extraordinary women over 40
To challenge outdated societal preoccupation with youth
To combat misogynistic perceptions that women “age out” of certain professions
To champion the achievements of women in Canada and inspire our younger counterparts
